A hotel guest has died after falling from the rooftop of a Washington DC area hotel.
John Leonard, 23, of Herndon, Virginia fell to his death down 10 floors through a boiler shaft at the Dupont Circle Hotel, police said.
He had gone to the roof with a companion to get a better view of the skyline, said Rachel Schaerr, a spokeswoman for the DC police.
It took police and fire crews about an hour to retrieve the body from the confined space.
It is unclear how he managed to get onto the roof which is not a public space.
The owner of the four-star hotel, The Doyle Collection, has not made a public comment although Mark Caldwell, one of the hotel’s managers described it as a ‘tragic accident’ in a brief statement to the media.
