Let the train take the strain to Sweden

Green holidays website http://Greentraveller.co.uk and the West Sweden Tourist Board have published a guide to Green Holidays in Gothenburg & West Sweden to show how travellers can make the most of the region in a way that has a low impact on the environment and a positive impact on biodiversity conservation and on the local economy.

The Guide features green hotels and B&Bs, the best places to find sumptuous local food and a range of outdoor activities – from sea kayaking in the Fjällbacka and Koster Archipelago to a day hunting for fresh lobster on the Skagerrak strait. Included in the Guide are videos, interviews, and in-depth information on how holidaymakers can travel to and around the region by train.

Included in this ground-breaking new online guide are over 100 recommendations for where to stay, eat and what to do in the region, from the cosmopolitan city of Gothenburg to the ancient woodland of Dalsland and the beautiful archipelago off the coast of Bohuslän, which includes the Koster Islands, Sweden’s first Marine National Park.

Working in collaboration with the West Sweden Tourist Board, greentraveller’s team of travel writers has picked out some of the best places to stay, from floating eco-hotels, green B&Bs and innovative tree houses and the best local restaurants and cafes that have won the Taste of West Sweden award.

The Guide also features a range of activities, including visiting island clusters and canals, seafood safaris, canoeing, hiking, tipi adventures and other family holidays.

Richard Hammond, Chief Executive and Founder of greentraveller.co.uk, says:

"I took the train to West Sweden last summer and experienced first-hand the wonderful variety of natural and cultural activities available in this special part of the country – from camping in Dalsland, staying in a fabulous treehouse at Falköping, tasting sumptuous local food, swimming in the Weather Islands off the west coast and canoeing around the island of Bassholmen."

"By selecting only the best eco-friendly and locally run places, our team of professional travel writers has already done the hard work for holidaymakers, who can choose from a wonderful range of quality places to stay, eat and visit that really make a difference to the regional economy."

"This guide to West Sweden is the latest of our online sustainable destination guides that reflect our focus on green and gorgeous destinations, and we hope that they will be a useful port of call for holidaymakers looking for that special local touch while on holiday in Europe."

Anna Martinez of the West Sweden Tourist Board, says:

"West Sweden Tourist Board is working on numerous projects with the tourist industry to create more sustainable businesses. One project, for example, is our leading role in the National Strategy to increase the income from tourism in a sustainable way. We are creating a new system where tour companies will be graded both in quality and sustainability… We believe that together with the industry and travellers we can reach the goal of having a unique sustainable destination and we’re delighted to be working with Greentraveller to launch this online guide to sustainable tourism in West Sweden."
