Ha Noi, the capital of VietNam, located in the Red River Valley, is recovering from major flooding in which much of the city was flooded with a metre of water. In some areas the depth exceeded two metres in the city. Sadly many drownings / deaths have been reported. About 10 flights were diverted at one point. Ha Noi’s infrastructure is very poor with street drainage systems, which carry sewage and rain water, frequently emptying their contents on to the streets when floods occur. Electrical supplies are also frequently disrupted at such times. Unfortunately visitors frequently have to rely on their own resources during such periods. Carrying a GOOD flashlight/torch and a whistle is recommended … Wellington Boots are optional.
