Hainan Airlines' loyalty scheme tweaked

Friday, 3 March 20173 min read
Hainan Airlines is tweaking the way it awards frequent flier miles.
It becomes the first airline loyalty programme in China to move to a revenue based system, calculating miles based on money spent rather than distance flown.
The airline said Fortune Wings Club members will earn 10 miles for every CNY10 (about $1.45) spent on airfares and additional surcharges.
"These changes will be more reasonable for allocation of award points in order to provide a better experience for our most valuable customers. In the future, the Fortune Wings Club will continue to make improvements to be the most valuable frequent flyer reward program," said Hou Wei, Hainan Airlines’ senior vice president of sales and marketing.
Fellow HNA Group airlines including Grand China Air, Tianjin Airlines, Lucky Air, Capital Airlines, Fuzhou Airlines, Yangtze River Airlines and Guangxi Beibu Gulf Airlines are also expected to follow suit.
Tickets issued via partner airlines or special fares ‘will still be awarded based on the purchased class and flight distance,’ the airline said.
Hainan said the new system will be implemented on July 1.
