Half of Americans wary of travel to US Zika areas

Nearly half of Americans are ‘not comfortable’ visiting parts of Florida amid Zika fears, according to a new survey.
A new Kaiser Health Tracking Poll for August found 48% said they are ‘not too’ or ‘not at all’ comfortable taking a vacation in areas with confirmed Zika cases such as Miami Beach.
More than three-quarters (77%) said they consider these areas unsafe for pregnant women.
However when travelling outside the continental United States, fear of Zika increases somewhat.
It found 59% not comfortable travelling to Zika-hit US territories such as Puerto Rico, and this rose by two percentage points for travel to other nations currently suffering outbreaks of the virus.
Unsurprisingly, there was a gender divide, with women more apprehensive than men.
Kaiser has been tracking the spread of Zika since early 2016 and this latest survey, conducted August 18-24, polled 1,211 American adults.
It also looked at public opinion on lawmakers’ failure to agree a funding package to fight the virus.
A third of respondents consider new funding to be a ‘top priority,’ while another 40% said it was ‘important.’
