Hawaii tourists renting U-haul trucks due to spike in car rental prices
Hawaii rental cars have surged in price so much, tourists have resorted to renting U-haul trucks to get around. Prices for rental cars in Maui have risen above $700 a day due to the limited numbers of vehicles.
This is down to rental companies selling off many vehicles to cope with the loss of rental revenue during the travel downturn. Now with thousands of tourists jetting in to Hawaii daily, demand is far outstripping supply.
Hawaii U-haul executives say there have been requests for all types of vehicles including pickups and box trucks.
