Hawaii welcomed over 700,000 tourists in August
Hawaii received more than 700,000 visitors in August 2021, spending $1.37 billion, less than 10% below pre-pandemic levels. Only 23,356 visitors arrived in August 2020.
The Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism said it won’t reach pre-Covid spending numbers until the international travel market returns. Tourism officials remain optimistic with Japan gradually easing restrictions.
It expects ‘a softening for the traditionally slower fall shoulder season.’
