Heathrow ‘tech issue’ leaves passengers checking white boards for departure info

Saturday, 17 Feb, 2020 0

Disruption is continuing at Heathrow Airport on Monday, after ‘technical issues’ affected departure boards and check-in systems on Sunday.

At least 58 of Monday’s arrivals and 30 departures have been cancelled because a knock-on effect of yesterday’s problem.

All the flights affected are operated by British Airways.

Yesterday, 73 departures and 60 arrivals were cancelled.

Photos on social media revealed electronic screens that were blank rather than showing gate numbers, and white boards with flight details written on them.

As the issue continued, signs on departure boards warned the flight information is not correct and passengers should not rely on any information on the screens.

Some passengers said they had been delayed by up to 10 hours. Others said they’d missed their flights after being given the wrong or misleading information.

Heathrow said it had drafted in extra staff to help direct people to gates.

British Airways told a customer on Twitter: "We’re aware Heathrow Airport is currently experiencing a technical issue that is impacting some of their IT systems across the airport, affecting a number of airlines.

"We are working with them to resolve the issue as a priority and apologise for the delay to our customers."

Late on Sunday night, Heathrow said the issue had been resolved and apologised for the disruption.
