Hertz competes with $12 ride to the airport, including gas
Technology—or at least the promise thereof—stole the show at Hertz Global Holdings Investor Day, as the company described Hertz 24/7, a self-service system that by summer will allow for hourly car rentals and keyless entry.
Bob Stuart, Hertz senior vice president of global sales and marketing, said in-car terminals and tablet-type devices will allow renters to access cars for an hour, a day, a week, or a month.
"We’re going to introduce the future of car rental," he said, promising more will be made public this spring.
Hertz customers already can rent cars by the hour in about 200 cities through Hertz On Demand. But the competition has heated up since Hertz competitor Avis Budget Group bought car-sharing market leader Zipcar.
Zipcar last month announced its entry into the three New York-area airports, with Honda Civics and Nisan Sentras available for rental starting at $12 an hour, including gas, insurance, and an E-Z Pass reader.
