High crime travel warning issued for Dominican Republic
American travelers have been advised to ‘exercise increased caution’ on vacation in the Dominican Republic.
The State Department updated its advice by issuing a level 2 travel advisory.
The agency’s travel warning says there is a heightened risk of crime and an increase in sexual assaults.
“Violent crime, including armed robbery, homicide and sexual assault is a concern throughout the Dominican Republic,” it states.
There have been visitors robbed after meeting up with someone they met via dating apps.
Some have involved date rape drugs at major resorts.
It says resort areas offer more protection than urban areas but tourists should still avoid secluded places and the beach after dark.
They should not try to fight back during robbery attempts.

Sorry to say that the increase in crimes has spoiled some of the fun. Truly, one should be aware of their surroundings at all times, even stateside. I live in N.Y.C. (Washington Heights/Inwood section of Manhattan - try to be safe. Peace/Blessings.
