HNA Group invests in Uber for China expansion

Ride sharing service Uber has found a key ally in its bid to finally crack the all-important China market.
Chinese firm HNA Group, which has numerous interests in tourism and aviation will invest an undisclosed amount in Uber.
HNA owns an interest in several airlines including Grand China Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Tianjin Airlines and Lucky Air.
So far Uber has little to show for the nearly $1 billion it has invested in China.
It has a formidable rival in Didi Kuaidi, which dominates the market in many Chinese cities, and has recently forged a strategic partnership with Lyft.
China is the ‘largest market globally and a key strategic hub’ according to Uber CEO Travis Kalanick.
"We are investing in China for the long term," he said.
