Holiday Extras expands in tech arena
Holiday Extras is to open a brand-new, dedicated engineering hub.
Having grown its technology team by almost a third in the past year, and with ambitions of increasing it by another 20% in the next six months, Holiday Extras has invested in a brand-new Birmingham base to house the wave of new talent joining the company.
The new recruits will test and deliver a range of new projects including the development of a variety of mobile apps, APIs and other technology innovations, working with cutting-edge open-source technologies.
The expansion will also be used to further cement the successes of Holiday Extras’ pioneering Tech Foundations team.
This team’s mission is to provide tools and platforms that enable fellow engineers to build sustainable software faster, so that the product teams can deliver frequently and get quick feedback on what customers care about.
Holiday Extras technology director Andy Britcliffe said: "The opening of our Birmingham base is yet another significant milestone in our mission to revolutionise our business, and the wider travel sector, through technology.
"Having a UK-central hub for talent has already seen us welcome some incredibly exciting engineers to our team and this growth will only continue with the plans we have for the future.
"Although we are a travel brand, our commitment to technology and its potential to wow the customer is what makes us so unique and ultimately what drives us.
"We’ve already created some fantastic innovations with the likes of our new suite of Trip centric mobile apps which are powered by artificial intelligence and machine learning.
"By continuing our investment in future talent, be it through new offices or our apprenticeship programmes, we can look forward to celebrating even more successes going forward."
In a further bid to develop and harness tech talent, Holiday Extras has launched a new innovative apprenticeship programme in partnership with Makers.
Having recruited from previous Makers cohorts, Holiday Extras has now joined with the software school to develop a dedicated scheme that will see apprentices benefit from the Makers programme as well as real-time experience in the Holiday Extras working environment.
Graduates from Makers can also access opportunities to secure permanent positions with Holiday Extras, once the 12-month course is completed.
