Hong Kong bans all flights from the UK

Hong Kong will ban all passenger flights originating from the UK starting 1 July.

Hong Kong is designating the UK as ‘extremely high-risk’ due to the spread of the Delta variant

People having spent spent more than two hours in the UK will banned from boarding flights to Hong Kong, because of ‘the recent rebound of the epidemic situation and the widespread Delta variant virus strain,’ it said.

HK has also imposed blanket flight bans on Indonesia, India, Nepal, Pakistan and the Philippines.

The vast majority of current Covid-19 cases in the UK are of the Delta variant, which was first identified in India, and cases have been surging in recent weeks.

Hong Kong also temporarily banned UK flights in late 2020.

The UK reported more than 22,000 new cases of Covid on Monday.

The World Health Organization says Delta variant is present in at least 85 countries and is the most infectious of all variants.
