Kimpton Hotels has become the latest accommodation chain to suffer a data breach, after unauthorised charges showed up on a customer’s card statement last month.
The IHG-owned company said cards used at some restaurants and hotel front desks from February 16 to July 7 may be affected.
Kimpton posted a list of the affected hotels which include hotels in New York, Baltimore, Seattle, Washington DC and Chicago among others.
Customer card numbers, expiration date, and internal verification codes were impacted, and in some cases, customer names, Kimpton said in a message on its website.
"We have resolved the issue and continue to work with the cyber security firms to further strengthen our existing security measures. We notified law enforcement and are also working with the payment card networks so that the banks that issue payment cards can be made aware and initiate heightened monitoring on the affected cards," it said.
Just days ago Millennium Hotels & Resorts North America reported a similar malware attack at more than a dozen hotel locations in the US.
