How much weight do you gain on a two-week cruise?

Wednesday, 2 May 20123 min read

The average cruise passenger puts on 12-14 pounds on a two-week cruise.

That’s according to new research from independent online cruise travel agent www.Bonvoyage.co.uk.

The poll of 1.281 Brits found:

– 52% of the respondents admitted to gaining 12-14 pounds whilst they were away

– 6% said they put on 16-18 pounds

– 9% said they gained just 2-4 pounds

– 84% said they ate more each day when on a cruise than at home

– 31% admitted to eating ‘double’ the amount of calories each day of a two week cruise, when compared to at home

– 41% of those that gained weight admitted to ‘struggling’ to lose the extra weight gained once home from their cruise

– 24% of those who gained weight whilst cruising said they gained more weight when on a two week cruise than they did throughout the festive season.

Steph Curtin, cruise development manager of bonvoyage.co.uk, said: "I am as guilty as these respondents when it comes to indulging when on a cruise holiday, as the delicious food and drink on offer can be difficult to say no to.

"This is particularly the case when on an all-inclusive cruise, where you know that all of the tempting food on offer has already been paid for!"
