Hurricane Dorian latest: Orlando Airport re-opens
Hurricane Dorian has left Florida largely unscathed but is now heading toward the Carolina Coast as a Category 3 storm.
The latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center says Dorian has strengthened again and could bring ‘life-threatening storm surge and dangerous winds’ to parts of the coasts of South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.
Earlier this week the hurricane brought devastation to the Bahamas leaving at least 20 people dead.
Bahamas PM Hubert Minnis called the storm ‘one of the greatest national crises in our country’s history’.
Charleston international airport is now closed until at least tomorrow and flights have also been cancelled at Atlanta and Charlotte.
In Florida, Orlando Airport has now re-opened and airlines, including Virgin Atlantic and Thomas Cook, are working on recovery operations.
Thomas Cook said flights to and from Orlando airport today (Thursday) will operate as scheduled but it continues to offer free amendments or cancellations to bookings for all customers who wish to travel, up to and including today.
Orlando theme parks have also re-opened.
