Hurricane strikes Queensland coast

Cyclone Yasi has hit the north Queensland coast, bringing fierce winds and rain.

The region is expected to suffer devastation and likely deaths in the Category Five storm.

Tourists have been fleeing the area since warnings arrived and hotels on the Barrier Reef islands in and other popular resorts have been closed.
