Hyatt Hotels Corp taps ethical hackers to strengthen data security
Spooked by the scale of the Starwood Hotels data breach, Hyatt Hotels Corp is tapping the ethical hacker community to help the company stay one step ahead.
It teamed up with hacker-powered security platform HackerOne to launch a bug bounty program to identify any possible data security flaws in its systems.
Security researchers can earn cash rewards for finding flaws on Hyatt.com desktop and mobile sites, its loyalty program website, and the iOS and Android apps.
"Protecting guest and customer information is our top priority and launching this program represents an important step that furthers our goal of keeping our guests safe every day," said Hyatt Chief Information Security Officer Benjamin Vaughn.
HackerOne CEO Marten Mickos said: "Bug bounty programs are a proven method for advancing an organization’s cyber security defences."
HackerOne has partnered with a number of major brands and organizations on similar data security projects including Starbucks, Google and the U.S. Department of Defense.
