Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport: Sustainable Hospitality from the Ground Up
Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport has for the first time been awarded Green Globe certification. Hyatt Place is the second Hyatt property in Amsterdam to be certified with this internationally recognised award for sustainable operations and is committed to Hyatt’s 2020 Vision to, ‘Use Resources Thoughtfully, Build Smart, and Innovate and Inspire.’
Stefan Blömker, General Manager at Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport said, "We are proud and excited to have been awarded the Green Globe certificate. All of our associates, driven by our Green Team, are aware of the inevitable impact of our daily operations on the environment. They embrace this responsibility and try to reduce our environmental footprint through measureable and purposeful actions."
Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport employs a full range of techniques, from innovative technologies to everyday good sense, to bring the lightest touch possible on its environment while making a big, positive impact on its guests, employees and community.
Several measures have been adopted to minimize energy consumption, including the integration of a carbon assessment program, effectively auditing and measuring reductions in energy consumption. An innovative heating and cooling system uses the soil under the hotel site to store energy, while the Building Management System (BMS) optimizes temperature settings across the property. In guest rooms energy efficient TV’s and minibars have been installed and the use of motion sensors for lighting and energy efficient bulbs, such as CFL and LED, are always preferred and mostly used throughout the hotel.
Water consumption is reduced with easy to implement actions, such as offering guests the possibility to re-use towels and linen; water is saved since there is less to wash. Less water is used in the toilets, with the integration of additional motion sensors in the men’s urinals.
The hotel is mindful to minimize waste as much as possible, by sorting all kinds of refuse from organic, plastic to batteries. Recycling paper is encouraged and reusable containers are used whenever possible. Suppliers are also made aware of the hotel’s sustainability policy and are asked to minimize packaging materials as well expand their range of sustainable products.
Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport prefers to purchase environmental friendly products, such as eco-certified paper for printing and biodegradable, eco-certified cleaning and dishwashing products. To protect and take care of hotel guests, all bathroom amenities are free from any ingredients harmful to humans and are also environmentally friendly. Food and beverage items that are eco-certified, or local, or fair-trade are also preferred.
Every employee follows the hotel’s training courses for sustainability in line with the Hyatt Earth Program creating environmental awareness. Several modules are presented covering topics such as: creating awareness, waste, pollution, energy and water. And externally, thanks to partnerships with several schools, young students are offered professional training in the various departments of the hotel.
Hyatt Place is proud to have many different nationalities represented in the hotel and men and women have an equal share in management positions. For more information on Hyatt’s corporate and social responsibility visit Hyatt Thrive.
