IBEROSTAR Rose Hall Beach & Spa Resort Achieves Environmental and CSR Goals
The Iberostar Rose Hall Beach & Spa Resort is a luxury 5-star All-Inclusive resort which consists of three separate properties, the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach Hotel, Iberostar Rose Hall Suites Hotel and the adults only, Iberostar Grand Rose Hall Hotel. Guests of this prestigious resort can expect to be pampered in every sense of the word and treated like stars all while enjoying Jamaica’s gorgeous ambiance, culture, people and scenic ocean views.
That being said, the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach & Spa Resort not only provides exquisite vacation experiences to all valued guests but it is also truly committed to the preservation and conservation of the environment, its natural resources and wildlife. The resort continues to maintain it’s belief that having considerable initiatives which promotes environmental sustainability is imperative to ensuring that the company plays its part in effecting global change and awareness relating to this topic which is of paramount importance.
Andrew Wright, Environmental Manager and Assistant General Manager at the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach Hotel said, "The Iberostar Rose Hall Beach & Spa Resort has upheld its commitment and dedication to promoting environmental sustainability by once again successfully re-certifying all three properties in Jamaica. Moreover, because of our genuine devotion to the program and through effective team work, we have achieved yet another milestone compliance score with all three properties combining for an average score of 86% within all defined criteria. Likewise, we are extremely proud to announce that the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach & Spa Resort has recently attained its Green Globe GOLD Status after 5 consecutive years of certification. The environment is truly a precious treasure and we all work hard at doing our best to take care of it just as much as we take care of our guests."
One of the property’s most notable achievements in the past year has been attributed to a recent partnership formed between the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach & Spa Resort and CaribShare Biogas. CaribShare, one of the eight winners of the IDEAS Energy Innovation Contest in 2012, has constructed a pilot digester in Montego Bay, which is the first biogas plant in Jamaica to produce electricity on a sustained basis. All organic waste is collected and processed by CaribShare into biogas and fertilizer to help solve the challenges of energy access and rural poverty in Jamaica.
The resort has been working hard at fulfilling our corporate social responsibilities and also displaying a genuine concern for the economic, human and social development of the communities where the company operates. The Resort therefore participates in wide scale community outreach programs on the island, most notably collaborating with the New Day Kindergarten & Preparatory School by supporting them with monetary donations, participation and sponsorship of special events and contributing to the general upkeep of the school. Children are provided with a wealth of knowledge and educated about the important part they can play in the preservation of the environment.
Lastly, this year we have launched a "Zero Straws" campaign at our hotel wherein guests are no longer automatically provided with straws for their drinks but rather only when it is requested. When requested, the hotel now only uses biodegradable straws. According to the Ocean Conservancy, straws represent 4% of the total amount of waste in the ocean. And according to a report by the Conservancy, within the garbage collected on beaches in 2015, straws were the fourth most common trash, after cigarettes, food wrappers and bottle caps. The hotel wants to ensure that they are doing their part to effect change in this regard and this campaign will surely add to the hotels conviction that providing unforgettable vacation experiences can most certainly be combined with suitable environmental conservation practices.
The Iberostar Rose Hall Beach & Spa Resort wholeheartedly believes that by working together and by putting appropriate measures in place, our environment will be properly sustained for many years to come.
