Jamaica is one of the most attractive destinations in the Caribbean, known for its natural, cultural and musical richness. In addition to its magnificent beaches, Jamaica offers exquisite gastronomy, a stunning natural environment and a unique culture. Guests staying at IBEROSTAR Hotels & Resorts Hotels in Jamaica can enjoy unforgettable experiences that only the island has to offer. IBEROSTAR Rose Hall Beach & Spa Resort not only provides exquisite vacation experiences to valued guests, it is also completely committed to the preservation of the environment and respects the natural wildlife. The resort holds the conviction that sustainable environmental practices are the proper way forward.
Andrew Wright, Environmental Manager and Assistant General Manager at the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach Hotel said, "We are extremely proud to announce that the IBEROSTAR Rose Hall Beach & Spa Resort has recently attained its Green Globe Certificate for a third consecutive year with the property achieving a milestone compliance of 80% within all defined criteria. We genuinely believe that the Resort can offer unforgettable vacation experiences while furthering the company’s commitment to improving products and services in a sustainable, profitable and respectful manner for individuals and the environment by incorporating ethical behavior in all facets of the management and administration of the company."
One of the property’s most notable achievements has been the implementation of a state of the art ‘Robot System’ which assists in energy conservation and allows the hotel to be more efficient in its daily activities. This system continuously checks room temperatures, occupancy and movement. From the combined information, it regulates temperatures, controls lighting and air conditioning. To reduce energy consumption, the system automatically turns off all lights and switches the temperature on air conditioning units to a fixed setting when a room is vacated. Once a guest returns to the room and opens the door, these settings are automatically restored to the ones originally selected. The Robot System also turns off air conditioning if the doors are left open for longer than 3 minutes.
The R5000 system controls the majority of all facility equipment in industrial areas and around the property such as chillers, pumps, boilers, tank levels and electrical systems. It is with a great deal of pride that the IBEROSTAR Rose Hall Beach & Spa Resort announces that its energy reduction goal of 5% was surpassed with the resort reducing its energy consumption by 5.19%.
The resort’s work with local communities is also a key factor in not only acting upon its corporate social responsibilities but also displaying a genuine concern for the economic, human and social development of the communities where the company has a presence. The IBEROSTAR Rose Hall Beach & Spa Resort participates in wide scale community outreach programs, most notably collaborating with the New Day Kindergarten & Preparatory School by supporting them with monetary donations and staff assisting with special events and upkeep of the school. Children are provided with a wealth of knowledge and educated about the important part they can play in the preservation of the environment.
In line with its commitment to environmental conservation, the IBEROSTAR Rose Hall Beach & Spa Resort has embarked on a rigorous waste management and recycling program that incorporates paper, cardboard, ink cartridges, waste oil and food waste. To reduce the resort’s impact on the environment, waste is sorted at an onsite ‘garbage house’ and recycled through various partnership recycling companies on the island. Through these initiatives, the resort was able to achieve an 18.28% waste output reduction compared to previous years 2014 and 2015.
Another recent accomplishment has been the installation of a brand new reverse osmosis plant which derives water from the ocean, converting it into reusable water that is utilized throughout the hotel. This year, the property’s goal is to reduce total water consumption by 10%.
