Icelandair finalises Airbus aircraft order
Flag carrier Icelandair has finalised its order of up to Airbus A321XLR aircraft.
The final purchase agreement has been completed for 13 jets and options for a dozen more.
Deliveries are scheduled to start in 2029.
Icelandair had been in discussions with lessors regarding a lease of A321LR aircraft and has separately finalised agreements with SMBC Aviation Capital Limited for four new A321LR aircraft.
These will be delivered from Airbus in late 2024.
CEO Bogi Nils Bogason said: “The A321XLR aircraft will further strengthen our business model, increase our flexibility and provide opportunities for future growth.”
“We plan to have four in operation before summer of 2025 and have now secured leases with our long-term partner SMBC Aviation.”
