The Land of Fire and Ice is getting another direct air link with sunny Florida.
National carrier Icelandair will start nonstop flights from Keflavík International Airport in Reykjavík to Tampa from September 7, 2017.
The service will operate twice a week and becomes Tampa’s fourth transatlantic route.
Icelandair also flies to Orlando among more than a dozen US routes.
"We think that the residents of Tampa Bay will enjoy this special focus we provide on offering flights in between the U.S. and Canada and Europe," said Guðjón Arngrímsson, spokesman for Icelandair.
"Iceland is an amazing country, and has grown incredibly as a tourist destination in the past few years. We are proud to represent Iceland in this way and to bring more tourists here."
It is not just the opportunity of direct travel to Iceland that has got Tampa’s tourism leaders excited.
This is about the connectivity Iceland has to Europe and on to Florida. Icelandair flies into major international hubs in Europe where our largest group of international visitation comes from. This dovetails very nicely with the other air service that has come to Tampa recently," said David Downing, executive director of Visit St. Pete-Clearwater.
Flights depart Tampa on Mondays and Thursdays with the return leg from Reykjavík leaving on Sundays and Wednesdays for same day arrival.
The airline also announced a seasonal summer service from Philadelphia with four flights a week.
