InterContinental Hotels has issued a warning to customers over a second payment card data breach in late 2016.
IHG says the latest data breach occurred for transactions made between September 29, 2016 and December 29, 2016.
The company says there is no evidence any cards were compromised after this date.
It confirmed an earlier data breach in February which affected card payments at 12 hotels in the US and Caribbean.
It is unclear if the latest hack is linked but is likely to have been detected following ongoing investigations into the earlier data breach.
This time some transactions made at hotel front desks were affected.
The company discovered and investigated the data breach during February and March, it said.
IHG has made it deliberately difficult to ascertain exactly how many properties were hit by the data breach.
There is a lookup tool on the IHG site which lists the hotels only by searching each city but so far reportedly there are more than 1,100 hotel locations affected.
IHG says investigations are still continuing.
"IHG hired a leading cyber security firm on behalf of franchisees to coordinate an examination of the payment card processing systems of franchise hotel locations in the Americas region. The investigation identified signs of the operation of malware designed to access payment card data from cards used onsite at the front desk at certain IHG-branded franchise hotel locations," a statement said.
"It is always advisable to remain vigilant to the possibility of fraud by reviewing your payment card statements for any unauthorized activity. IHG values the relationship it has with its guests and understands the importance of protecting payment card data. "
