Illegal bus companies targeted in NZ

Friday, 07 Jun, 2006 0

The NZ bus industry is targeting stamping our illegal bus operators by speaking out about the illegal operators and the risks they’re taking.

The Bus & Coach Association says some companies don’t have licences, drive unroadworthy vehicles and don’t pay tax.

Land Transport New Zealand recently investigated 90 buses and found six of them were unsafe to drive and it says the problem appears to be mainly with the Asian market.

LTNZ says illegal operators, particularly in the Asian market, are putting lives at risk.

LTNZ is working with the Tourism Ministry, the police and bus companies to identify illegal operators and stamp them out.
