Inbound operators accuse Government of damaging UK tourism

Thursday, 3 March 20113 min read

Inbound tour operators will unveil a report later this month accusing the UK Government of damaging UK tourism.

On March 14, the start of British Tourism Week, the European Tour Operators Association (ETOA) will reveal new research which, it says, shows that inbound tourism is being hit by three factors:

– the difficulty in obtaining visas

– the unavailability of hotel space at sensible market rates in London during the period of the Olympics

– a taxation system which punishes companies based here who try to sell inbound tours in non-EU markets.

Tom Jenkins, ETOA’s executive director, will outline the report at a press conference and “will highlight a visa fiasco for visitors to the UK and Ireland”.
