Increase in visitor figures for Great Lakes USA in 2018
A substantial increase in visitors from the UK and Ireland in 2018 to the Great Lakes USA region was announced at World Travel Market. From 2012 to 2018, there was an increase of 11.3%, with a total of 423,000 visitors from the two countries.
The total number of international travellers to the region in 2018 was 3,761,000, a 21.5% increase from 2012. *
Executive Director of Great Lakes USA, Toby McCarrick, commented: "There were several new flights into the region launched in 2018, making it more accessible for the UK traveller. We also increased our sales/marketing efforts with our partner states and members, added new tour operator itineraries on a wholesale and direct to consumer basis. We also ran several high-profile, nationwide promotions to raise awareness of the area which engaged the trade and consumers.
‘With the new direct Aer Lingus flight from Dublin into Minneapolis Saint Paul and 2020 events such as the Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits, Wisconsin and the 25th anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, there are even more reasons for international visitors to travel to the Great Lakes USA next year."
