India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation has begun a probe into why an Air India plane was allowed to fly with a dent in its fuselage.
Three staff members have been temporarily suspended from duty while the investigation takes place, the DCGA said.
The A319 jet was seemingly allowed to continue flying even after the damage was discovered during an inspection.
Sources said two pilots and an engineer were derostered and the DCGA’s Air Safety Department is expected to soon conclude the investigation.
The incident dates back to October when the aircraft was flying from Patna to Delhi.
The airline’s maintenance division Air India Engineering Services confirmed the probe and is ‘awaiting the investigation report.’
