Two IndiGo jets came close to a mid-air collision after one experienced turbulence.
IndiGo flight 6E-813 en-route to Guwahati from Mumbai was hit by turbulence causing it to climb by about 300 feet, taking it across the flight path of another IndiGo plane which had just taken off from Guwahati.
It took it up to less than the 1,000 feet mandated minimum distance from the other aircraft, authorities said.
Alerts were triggered by the onboard Traffic Collision Avoidance System and ‘evasive action’ was taken by the pilot.
Both planes continued on their prescribed flight path and landed safely without incident.
However the turbulence hit flight left four passengers ‘physically shaken’ and two members of crew with minor injuries.
"The flight made a normal landing and immediately after landing, these four passengers along with the two cabin crew were administered with the necessary medical assistance. According to doctor’s report, there were no major injuries reported," an airline statement said.
