Indonesia AirAsia X has been roundly criticized by Aussie travellers after abruptly announced the halting of its routes to Sydney and Melbourne from Bali.
The carrier said it will cease flying on both routes on September 1.
Affected passengers were informed by text and email messages, Australian media reports said.
"The route suspension is part of a network restructuring aimed at improving operational efficiencies," AirAsia said in the email.
Passengers with confirmed bookings in September and beyond have been given the option to reroute via Kuala Lumpur, move to an earlier date or request a full refund or credit for another AirAsia booking.
The airline took heat on social media from customers irkred by the sudden decision and wait times trying to get through to its call centre to change bookings.
Rival Tigerair says it aims to help out affected AirAsia customers with ‘special recovery fares’ offering a 20% discount.
It is being offered to customers who provide proof of booking for a cancelled AirAsia flight.
"Tigerair Australia is proud to provide Australians with consistently great value fares both domestically and now also to one of the most popular international leisure destinations," Commercial Director Adam Rowe said in a statement.
Tigerair launched flights to Bali from both cities as well as from Perth in March.
