Indonesia first country to sign UNWTO Tourism Ethics Convention

Indonesia has become the first country to sign up to the UNWTO’s Framework Convention on Tourism Ethics.

The Convention was announced during the UNWTO General Assembly last year and aims to introduce a legally binding common ethical code for tourism globally.

It has been hailed as a ‘big step forward’ for tourism standards.

The agreement was signed by Indonesia’s ambassador to Spain at UNWTO’s head office.

The agency says Indonesia took a leading role in drafting the Convention and has been a member state for 35 years.

Indonesia is currently working closely with UNWTO to help facilitate opening of borders to restart international tourism.
