Indonesian airport operator partners with air transport IT provider SITA
Indonesian airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I Persero (AP1) has tapped air transport IT provider SITA to help streamline operations in line with the rapid growth in Southeast Asia’s biggest aviation market.
SITA signed a partnership with subsidiary PT Angkasa Pura Supports and expands on their existing relationship.
SITA has provided the AirportConnect Open platform to AP1 since 2014 which aids carriers to operate smoothly at AP1’s 13 airports.
The platform also enables the expansion of SITA’s self-service check-in kiosks, bag-drop and boarding gate operations.
"Indonesia is one of the world’s most exciting air transport industry markets, with enormous traffic growth and related investments in aircraft, airports and infrastructure. SITA has been a major player here for over a decade and we look forward to continuing this strategic partnership with AP1 to future-proof its group of airports," said Sumesh Patel, SITA President Asia Pacific.
SITA’s smart airport technology has been showcased at Bali’s Nugurah Rai Airport over the past few days during the IMF and the World Bank annual meetings which took place on the holiday island last week.
PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero) handled a combined 87.9 million passengers last year, with almost half passing through its two main airports in Bali and Surabaya Juanda.
"SITA has been a trusted partner to AP1 to help transform our two airports, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali and Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, East Java to be among the most advanced in Indonesia today. Following this success, together with our subsidiary, PT Angkasa Pura Supports, we now look forward to partner with SITA and introducing its innovative range of smart airport technologies," said Sardjono Jhony Tjitrokusumo, Director, business development of AP1.
Indonesia is expected to become a top four aviation market globally within 20 years, more than tripling capacity to 355 million passengers a year.
