Inquiry after Jet Airways flight drops suddenly during flight

Friday, 15 August 20143 min read

An investigation has begun following reports that a Jet Airways aircraft flying to Brussels suddenly dropped 5,000 feet.

According to a report in the Times of India, the Captain was taking ‘controlled rest’ and the co-pilot was busy on her tablet when the plane suddenly dropped going over Ankara in Turkey.

The plane was pulled back to its assigned height when the pilots were alerted by a call from alarmed Turkish air traffic control officials.

The two pilots have been taken off the roster pending the inquiry.

The aviation watchdog, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), said it viewed last Friday’s incident as ‘serious’.

Jet Airways said it has also launched an internal inquiry.
