InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach unveils a new chapter

InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach, part of the luxury and lifestyle portfolio of IHG Hotels & Resorts, has unveiled the final phase of its multi-million-dollar transformation, introducing an oceanfront infinity pool and terrace, Club InterContinental lounge, and pickleball courts. The highly anticipated Èliva Spa should open in the next few days.

The reimagined property reflects the global evolution of the InterContinental brand, centered on the idea that travel expands the mind and connects cultures. The refreshed experience combines restorative design, concierge-led local experiences, and social spaces aimed at delivering cultural insight and meaningful stays.

The extensive renovation also includes 198 upgraded guestrooms and suites, many with sweeping ocean views and sun-filled interiors. Designed by Woods Bagot, the transformation introduces a contemporary interpretation of coastal luxury to Sydney’s eastern shoreline while appealing to modern travelers seeking elevated beachfront living.

At the center of the redesign is the hotel’s newly completed pool deck overlooking the coastline. The infinity-edge pool is heated year-round and surrounded by private cabanas, sun loungers, and layered seating areas designed for guests to relax throughout the day. Landscaped with palms, coastal grasses, and native plants, the terrace creates a sense of privacy while preserving uninterrupted ocean views. During cooler months, fire pits add warmth and atmosphere to the outdoor setting.

The adjoining poolside dining venue embraces a relaxed beachside style, serving classic dishes alongside lighter options including the hotel’s new Nourish Bowls, available throughout the property. The menu reflects the brand’s focus on flexibility and wellness-driven dining.

Coastal Club Lounge

Club InterContinental introduces a more private and elevated guest experience. The lounge features natural light, sun-washed tones, organic textures, and subtle nautical touches across a series of relaxed spaces designed for different moments of the day. Guests can enjoy breakfast by the water, afternoon tea, and evening Champagne and canapés, all delivered with personalized service.

The experience extends to a private outdoor terrace overlooking the ocean, offering a quieter retreat separate from the main pool deck while still capturing the energy of Coogee Beach.

Wellness and Lifestyle Focus

The addition of two pickleball courts creates a unique offering among Sydney hotels and reinforces the Eastern Suburbs lifestyle focus on movement, connection, and outdoor living.

Opening in May, Èliva Spa will introduce a new wellness concept to Sydney’s coastline. Designed around rest, recovery, and invigoration, the spa will feature magnesium mineral pools, infrared and salt saunas, cold plunge baths, and a crystal steam room. Guests will also have access to a recovery lounge equipped with wellness technology including PEMF infrared masks, LED facial masks, compression boots, and vitamin C-infused showers.

Treatments will combine modern wellness techniques with nature-inspired therapies tailored through personal consultations. A 24-hour fitness studio will further support guests’ wellness routines.

Melinda Lampier, General Manager of InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach and Portfolio General Manager for IHG Hotels & Resorts, Salter Brothers, said the additions reflect the vision of creating “a refined yet relaxed coastal retreat” where guests can connect with Coogee’s natural beauty while enjoying an elevated stay.

Together with Shutters Restaurant & Bar, which opened with the hotel in December, the new additions position InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach as a leading lifestyle destination on one of Sydney’s most iconic beaches.

InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach joins a global collection of more than 240 InterContinental hotels and resorts worldwide. The brand continues expanding across Asia Pacific, with InterContinental Port Moresby and InterContinental Barossa Resort & Spa scheduled to open in the coming years.
