Investigation after bomb threat on Madrid-Sao Paulo flight
A bomb threat forced the pilot of a Boeing 777 to turn back to Madrid Airport last night.
Brazil’s national carrier TAM Airlines confirmed on Twitter that Flight JJ8065 returned to Madrid an hour and a half into the flight.
It had left Madrid’s Barajas Airport and was on its way to Sao Paulo.
The airline said it was informed of the alleged bomb threat by Spanish authorities.
The flight landed safely in Madrid shortly after midnight, and all passengers disembarked safely.
It had been due to arrive at 5:25am local time at Sao Paulo’s Guarulhos Airport.
The airline said it was cooperating with authorities who are investigating.
