Irish schoolfriends die in separate, mysterious incidents on Greek island
Police in Greece are investigating two separate incidents over the deaths of two Irish teenagers.
Andrew O’Donnell and Max Wall, both aged 18, died in separate, apparently unrelated incidents just hours apart on the island of Ios.
They are schoolfriends and were celebrating the end of exams with a larger group from the St Michael’s College in Dublin.
The private school described it as the ‘one of the darkest days we have ever experienced.’
Andrew was found outside the town on rocks and may have fallen, police said
He had been reported missing on the way home from a night out.
Max Wall had been involved in the island wide search.
Just hours later, Max was found by a member of public unconscious near the town’s port.
He was rushed to hospital and later pronounced dead.
The incidents have also shocked the local community.
Greek police said the bodies will be taken to the mainland for postmortems.
The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs are providing consular assistance.
“The whole island is in deep shock,” said one Irish born bar owner on Ios.
It was an ‘almost inconceivable day of tragedy,’ the school said.
