Iron Maiden's Dickinson becomes airline's head of marketing

Bruce in his Maiden days

Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson has been appointed head of marketing at Gatwick-based Astraeus Airlines.

The heavy metal rock star, best known for ear-piercing anthems such as Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter, is an established pilot and already has a relationship with Astraeus, which leases crew and planes to BA and Bmi, as he flies its Boeing 737s and 757s regularly and transports band members on tour.

Dickinson said his job was of an “ambassadorial” flavour and did not mean he would be spending much time dreaming up strategy or balancing marketing budgets.

At the controls ….Bruce Dickinson

He told the Daily Telegraph: "This isn’t about appointing ad agencies or anything like that.” He said his aim was to spread "the Astraeus message and business proposition directly to what is a relatively tight and targeted audience of people and decision-makers in aviation".

The airline is a subsidiary of Eignarhaldsfelagid Fengur, the owner of Iceland Express.
Top marks to Astraeus for its moment of PR genius.
