ITA Airways expands summer network with new routes

ITA Airways is expanding both its European network and international partnerships as it launches new seasonal routes from Rome Fiumicino to Málaga, Valencia, and Marseille for Summer 2026.

The new services began operating on June 1 and will run through September 30, with daily flights linking Rome to three of the Mediterranean’s most popular leisure destinations. The routes also provide seamless connections through Rome Fiumicino to the airline’s domestic, European, and intercontinental network.

“It is with great pleasure that we announce the launch of new seasonal flights to Málaga, Valencia, and Marseille,” said Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial, Network & Incentive Management Officer of ITA Airways.

These new routes strengthen ITA Airways’ Summer 2026 offering to some of the most in-demand leisure destinations of the season, expanding travel opportunities for our passengers and further enhancing the strategic role of our Rome Fiumicino hub.”

The new services form part of a broader summer expansion strategy. ITA Airways has also introduced seasonal flights to Mykonos, Alicante, and Trapani while increasing frequencies to Brindisi, Lampedusa, Pantelleria, Palma de Mallorca, Nice and Tunis.

Within Italy, seasonal routes connecting Olbia with Turin and Genoa have been launched to support growing domestic travel demand.

Beyond Europe, the airline continues to expand its long-haul network. Summer highlights include the new Rome–Houston service, the first-ever nonstop connection between the two cities. Flights to Houston will increase to five weekly frequencies during the peak summer period, further strengthening ITA Airways’ presence in the strategically important North American market.

In Asia, the carrier is adding capacity on key routes, including increasing Rome–Bangkok flights to five weekly services during August and operating Rome–Delhi daily in response to strong demand.

JV Lufthansa-ANA on Japan-Europe routes to include ITA from this autumn

The airline’s growing international reach is also being supported by its integration into Lufthansa Group. A major milestone will come in October 2026 when ITA Airways joins the Europe-Asia joint venture operated by Lufthansa Group and ANA Holdings.

The expanded joint venture will include ITA Airways’ Rome Fiumicino–Tokyo Haneda service, alongside the extensive Europe and Asia networks of the participating airlines. In addition to ITA Airways’ European and African destinations, the agreement will provide customers with enhanced connectivity, coordinated schedules, and expanded travel options between Europe and Japan.

ANA currently operates flights between Tokyo Haneda and Milan Malpensa. While Malpensa is not served by ITA Airways, the addition of the Italian carrier to the joint venture is expected to strengthen traffic flows through Rome Fiumicino and further integrate ITA Airways into Lufthansa Group’s global network strategy.

The move represents another significant step in the airline’s transformation following Lufthansa Group’s investment in the Italian flag carrier and reinforces Rome Fiumicino’s role as a key Southern European hub connecting Europe, North America, Africa, and Asia.
