Italy strike to cause flight delays and cancellations today
Flights to Italy, especially Pisa and Venice, are likely to be disrupted today due to a national strike.
The problem will be compounded by additional industrial action being taken at Pisa airport for 24 hours.
EasyJet has already cancelled a number of flights ahead of the strike tomorrow and is allowing customers to re-arrange their journeys.
The airline said: "Although the strike is nationwide in Italy we are expecting Venice and Pisa to be especially impacted.
"Customers whose flights are cancelled will be contacted directly via SMS using the details provided at the time of booking and check in.
"We strongly recommend these customers not to travel to the airport but to log on to manage bookings to arrange a transfer or refund."
British Airways is aiming to operate its normal schedule to Italy today, but it warned customers that there might be some delays to retrieving their bags on arrival and how they would be processed on departure.
It added: "The situation may be liable to change at short notice, so please keep checking the details of your flight before travelling to the airport."
BA too said that flights to Pisa were likely to be worst affected.
The National strike will also affect public transport in Italy, so passengers are advised to make alternative arrangements and leave plenty of time to get to the airport.
