Italy’s new airline takes flight
Italy’s new airline, ITA Airways took to the skies as Alitalia completed its final flight after 74-years in business. ITA started life as a much smaller airline than Alitalia, employing about a quarter of Alitalia’s workers.
ITA paid over $104 million for the rights to the Alitalia brand and website, and launched a new frequent flier programme, called Volare.
ITA President Alfredo Altavilla said its smaller ‘right-sized’ business will enable it of compete with LCCs.
