ITM to introduce supplier training schemes
A training programme for business travel suppliers is to be introduced by the Institute of Travel Management.
The announcement came at the association’s 2007 conference in Edinburgh, under the theme ‘Responsible Travel Management’.
The new supplier training programme forms part of an overhaul of the ITM’s educational programme which extends to its Professional Certificate, Introduction to Travel Management buyer workshops and a series of half, three-quarter and one-day forums scheduled throughout 2007.
ITM Executive Director Paul Tilstone said: “This new training programme came about as a result of research carried out by our education working party last year.
“The research identified training in account management, negotiation skills and presentation skills as a top requirement in over 30% of our supplier members. Consequently we have established training programmes across these three disciplines in 2007 at both introductory and advanced levels.”
The ITM has teamed up with T&T Training Solutions to create a series of three, one-day introductory courses for those who need an overview of the subject.
“These courses are designed for those new to travel management in the supplier community or for operational staff with aspirations to move across to account management or sales” says Lynn Ceylan of T&T.
ITM has brought in a second training partner – MG Training Solutions – for an advanced series of courses in which there are just six places and coaching is more intense.
Tilstone said: “We were aware of a number of training options in the industry but most companies do not offer open courses where suppliers can send one or two staff at a time. We believe that this type of training, whether it’s the aspirational introductory level or the more advanced courses, will offer our supplier members excellent quality training at very competitive prices.”
