ITT confirms Jordan as venue for 2003 conference
The Institute of Travel and Tourism has announced that next year’s conference will take place in Jordan, which was dropped as the venue for the 2002 event.
The ITT changed the location for this year’s event to Galway after a survey revealed that 70% of respondents said they either would not go or would have serious reservations about attending if it took place in Jordan. The decision was criticised by the Jordan Tourism Board, who said it gave the “wrong message” to consumers.
Commenting on the latest ITT announcement, Jordan Tourism Board md Marwan Khoury said: “On behalf of his Excellency Dr Taleb Rifai, we are delighted with the ITT’s announcement today and that it is committed to our country next year. Jordan is heavily reliant on its tourism industry, as its wealth lies in its culture, natural wonders and people. Our most important European market, the UK accounts for one in five visitors to our country and we are thrilled that the tourism industry is backing this trend.
“We welcome ITT members to Jordan and thank them for all their support of the last few months. We guarantee that the 2003 ITT Conference will be the best yet and the announcement today gives us 18 months to build on this accolade.”
