JAL, ANA shift more US routes to Tokyo Haneda
With increased slots for international flights at Tokyo’s Haneda airport, Japan’s big two carriers will shift more US services there from Tokyo Narita.
All Nippon Airways will move Houston, Los Angeles, San José, CA, Seattle and Washington Dulles flights to Haneda.
In addition, ANA will start flying new routes from Haneda to Istanbul, Milan, Moscow, Shenzhen, and Stockholm.
Japan Airlines said it will shift flights to Chicago O’Hare, Dallas/Fort Worth, Honolulu, and Los Angeles to Tokyo Haneda, as well as some European services and flights to Sydney.
Japanese regulators recently added 50 new daytime slots for international flights at Tokyo Haneda.
Half were allocated to Japanese carriers and half to foreign airlines.
Slots at Tokyo Haneda are highly prized as the airport is more convenient and much closer to the city than Tokyo Narita.
Several US carriers have also shifted services from Narita to Haneda after securing new slots at the latter during a competitive bid process with the US department of transportation.
