Japan to launch vaccine passport in summer

Japan plans to roll out Covid-19 vaccination certificates to enable its citizens to travel overseas. It will start with a paper version while it develops a smartphone based system similar to the EU’s Digital Covid Certificate.

"Other countries are doing it, so Japan will have to consider it, too," Taro Kono, the country’s head of vaccines said.

Japan is still behind other developed nations in getting people vaccinated. Only about 3% are fully vaccinated.
