Japan tourism arrivals top two million for first time since Covid

Monthly inbound tourist numbers to Japan surpassed two million for the first time since the pandemic closure.
The Japan National Tourism Organisation said it welcomed a total of the 2.07 million tourists.
Japan welcomed 1.9 million visitors in May.
Total tourist arrivals have now topped 10 million for first six months of 2023.
It stands at nearly 65% of pre pandemic levels.
Japan tourism data shows South Korea is the top source market with 3.13 million, followed by 1.77 million from Taiwan, and 970,000 from the US.
Almost 600,000 Chinese travelers have visited so far this year, which remains just a fraction of the numbers prior to 2020.
