Jet Airways fires pilots involved in cockpit disturbance

Jet Airways said it fired two pilots involved in a cockpit ruckus, where both left the flight deck.

The mid-air fight led to a female pilot storming out of the cockpit of a London-Mumbai flight, followed by a male pilot leaving the controls unattended.

Although the flight landed safely, both were suspended pending full airline and aviation regulator investigations.

"Consequent to the review of the events on board Flight 9W 119 London-Mumbai of 01 January 2018, Jet Airways has terminated services of both the cockpit crew with immediate effect," Jet Airways said in a statement.

"At Jet Airways, safety of guests, crew and assets is of paramount importance and the airline has zero tolerance for any action of its employees that compromises safety."

The rumpus began not long after the flight left London with 324 passengers and 14 crew members aboard.

Air regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation found both pilots had left the cockpit twice during the incident, leaving the plane in autopilot mode.

According to airline sources the female pilot accused her colleague of slapping her and stormed out, initially refusing to return to the cockpit.

She was eventually coaxed back in after being comforted by cabin crew colleagues, although there was then a second flashpoint and she left the cockpit again.
