Jet bridge collapses during deplaning

A jet bridge collapsed at San Francisco International Airport during passenger deplaning du to ‘a structural failure.’

About half of the passengers from Hawaiian Airlines flight 42 had deplaned when it happened.

The cabin of the jet bridge collapsed but didn’t separate from the plane. There were no injuries.

It is thought there was stress on a metal strut beneath the jet bridge cabin which caused the collapse.

It caused some damage to the Hawaiian Airlines plane.

“All of our guests were able to safely deplane, but our aircraft sustained some damage,” airline spokesperson Alex Da Silva said.

The aircraft was taken out of service for repairs.

The remaining passengers and crew still on the plane disembarked via the rear door.

The incident is being investigated and the air bridge remains out of service.
