Jet2.com is set for further expansion after buying Thomas Cook flight slots at Birmingham, Stansted and Manchester.

The airline announced the deal on Friday afternoon, hours after easyJet revealed it has bought Thomas Cook’s slots at Gatwick and Bristol.

EasyJet revealed it has paid £36 million for its slots, while Jet2 has not disclosed the sum it has paid.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said: "The acquisition of these key UK airport slots will play an important role in supporting our continued growth at Birmingham, London Stansted and Manchester Airports."

"We have been adding more flights and aircraft, resulting in increased capacity, at each of these bases for many years.

"Today’s announcement is the latest demonstration of our commitment to providing holidaymakers with more choice and flexibility when it comes to flying to sun, city and ski destinations with our award-winning airline."

Official receiver KPMG confirmed the deal, saying: "The agreement sees Jet2.com acquire the UK slots at Manchester Airport, Birmingham Airport and London Stansted Airport, with this transaction being the second announced in relation to Thomas Cook’s UK slots portfolio.

"The sale price was not disclosed."
