Jet2 plans massive expansion at Manchester
Northern-based no-frills airline Jet2 has announced plans to serve nine destinations from Manchester airport.
The carrier, which currently offers 14 destinations from Leeds-Bradford and three from Belfast, said it would offer one-way fares from £21 and create 200 jobs at Manchester.
The destinations served initially from its new base will be Budapest, Faro, Geneva, Malaga, Murcia, Nice, Pisa, Valencia and Venice. The first flights will depart on December 1.
Jet2 boss Philip Meeson said: “Our aim is to be the number one airline for leisure travellers in the north. We’re here to build on our overwhelming success in Yorkshire and Northern Ireland.
“The decision to operate from Manchester will initially mean almost 200 new jobs for people in the region, from cabin crew and pilots through to check-in staff and admin support.
Manchester Airport managing director John Spooner said: “No frills is our fastest-growing sector and we are pleased that Jet2.com is joining us.”
