Jet2 to customers: don’t go to the airport

Saturday, 27 Jul, 2020 0

Jet2holidays has suspended its entire Spain programme, after the government advised against all but essential travel, and then added the Balearics and the Canary Islands.

With the latest expansion, it issued an advisory for booked passengers not to go to the airport.

A spokesperson said: "Following the latest government advice regarding travel to mainland Spain from the UK, we have taken the decision to suspend our flights and holidays programme to Costa de Almeria, Alicante, Malaga and Murcia from 28 July up to and including 16 August.

It then posted another Tweet after the Balearic and Canary Islands were added to the quarantine list.

"Following the latest government advice regarding travel to the Balearic and Canary Islands from the UK, we are advising customers who are due to travel to the following destinations (Tenerife, Fuerterventua, Gran Canaria, Lanzoarote, Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza) not to go to the airport as we are not operating flights to these destinations."

"We will also contact customers who are currently in mainland Spain to advise them of their options regarding flying back to the UK," it earlier said.

"For bookings due to travel to mainland Spain from 17 August onwards, we will provide an additional update once we receive further information from the government..

"We would like to thank our independent travel agency partners for their understanding and patience."

Customers have taken to social media to complain that Jet2 has ‘quietly withdrawn’ its ‘Worry-Free Guarantee’, which promised it wouldn’t operate to destinations where customers would have to quarantine on return.

TUI has pulled all holidays to the Balearic Islands and Canary Islands until Friday 31 July at least.

"Customers with holidays to Balearic Islands and Canary Islands from August 1 and mainland Spain from August 10 will be updated on Friday 31 July," the company said.

"The UK Government must work closely with the travel industry as this level of uncertainty and confusion is damaging for business and disappointing for those looking forward to a well-deserved break."

EasyJet Holidays has axed all trips to Spain including the Canary Islands and the Balearics, which had been due to restart on 1 August.

Customer Director Matt Callaghan said: "We’re really sorry for any disappointment caused to customers due to travel to mainland Spain, the Canary Islands, and the Balearic Islands in the next few weeks.

"This is in line with one of our key commitments to only operate to countries where we believe customers can have a safe and enjoyable holiday.

"We’ve contacted affected customers already and will process a refund for them which will be available very shortly should they wish to book another holiday.

"We also have a very flexible approach for customers with existing bookings who are feeling unsure about travelling and will support with free changes to their booking up to 28 days before departure and wherever we can in other circumstances."
